“We shape our public spaces; thereafter our public spaces shape us.”  Winston Churchill

Although Mr. Churchill won’t be joining us, the sentiment and people concerned about Greenville’s future will form a panel to discuss Greenville’s growth—which anyone can see has already begun.

Overview:         We are fortunate to be well aware of what unintelligent growth can do to communities that do not plan for it—even when they know it’s coming!  The PlaceMakers event in July helped to clarify how to ensure that we keep our small-town feel while enjoying many of the benefits of a larger city. We need to decide what we do with that information.

Smart Growth     What are these smart growth principles we keep hearing about?

Principles:                    THE most important fact about Smart Growth is that it is PRO-GROWTH!

Growth is not and should not be synonymous with sprawl.

Unintelligent growth allows natural development to occur in areas where

                                       infrastructure is overextended or non-existent.

What does it mean to the business community?

Smart Growth is THE most business-friendly way to grow.

City ordinances become streamlined and even logical!

Streets and streetscapes are designed to complement businesses.

Quality of life is enhanced making Greenville an even more desirable place to live

and work—for you and for your employees.

The Panel:             Kim Quimby, Quest Land Development & Smart Growth Committee Chair

Bryan Herrin, Power Protection Partners & Greenville City Mayor Pro-Tem

Jon Adel, Assistant City Manager, City of Greenville

Details:                  Registration & breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m.; program at 8 a.m.
