Native American Pow Wow


Greenville’s special events mean fun for the whole family, from outdoor recreation in the spring to the last jingle bell at Christmas. Mark your calendar for these upcoming special events.

  • The Greenville High School Native American Annual Benefit Pow Wow, held at the high school each year in January, features Native American dancing, music, food, and crafts. The event is a day-long tribute to our Native American heritage.

  • The Keep Greenville Beautiful Spring Home & Garden Show is a showcase where gardeners and homeowners can learn about the latest home care products, meet local contractors, get gardening tips, and much more. The Show on May 22, 2010 at the Landmark on Lee Street is held during Downtown Blooms.
  • The Antique Car Swap Meet at the Hunt County Fairgrounds is a flea market for classic autos! You'll find vintage parts and accessories and lots of antique auto memorabilia for sale at this April event. Arts & crafts, too.
  • During Mary of Puddin Hill's Bunny Hop Easter Tour, the candy kitchen and the Puddin Hill Store offer special tours and dazzling decorations. Chocolate sculptures of Easter Bunnies, a fabulous chocolate doll house, and a visit from the Easter Bunny make this a special occasion for the whole family! Hop on over to Puddin Hill for the tour.
  • Easter After Dark is an Easter Egg Hunt - for adults only! Held at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum the Egg Hunt offers great prizes, all hidden in eggs distributed through the museum grounds. 903-450-4502 for more information.

  • Appetite Alley offers a taste of Greenville. Scheduled for April 17, 2010 right after the annual DrugFree Greenville Walkathon, The Alley invites hungry visitors to sample the menus of local restaurants while enjoying the entertainment at Market Square in downtown Greenville.   • Downtown Blooms Backstreet Bash is a day of fun & music in downtown Greenville on May 22, 2010. Bargain shop, boogie down, boost your blossoms or bark out loud with a full day of activities in and around Jordan Street, one block "back" to the north of Lee Street, capped by the Threadgill Concert.

  • Saturday Market Days at the Farmers Market brings the best of local and regional harvests to the downtown Market Square. Choose fresh produce, local honey and eggs, landscape plants, or fresh cut flowers every Saturday morning, spring through fall.

  • The annual Spring Garden Tour offers inspiration for gardeners with a look at six delightful private gardens. Sponsored by the Hunt County Master Gardeners/Hunt County Extension Service.

  • The Greenville Airport Fly-In and Aviation Expo takes place at Majors Field Municipal Airport. The Fly-In includes experimental homebuilt aircraft as well as vintage military and civilian aircraft.

  • The Cinco de Mayo celebration includes fun with a Mexican flavor. Look for pinatas, cascarones, and all-you-can-eat tamales at St. Williams Catholic Church.

  • The Hunt County Fair held at the fairgrounds in Greenville, features top quality musical entertainment, a midway with games and breathtaking rides, displays of local products and services, and livestock exhibits and competitions.
  • Audie Murphy Days honors WWII's most decorated soldier, a Hunt County native. The event is hosted in June by the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum, home of a permanent exhibit about Murphy and a ten foot bronze statue of the war hero commissioned by the Greenville Sesquicentennial Committee.

  • Juneteenth celebrations include parades and authentic soul food.

  • July 4th parade down Park streetDon't miss Greenville's Community July 4th Celebration!

    Tykes and trikes kick off the red, white, and blue celebration at the Buena Vista/Chapman Neighborhood Parade at 9 a.m. The 10 a.m. Park Street Parade, featuring marching bands, visiting dignitaries, and floats, ends at Kavanuagh United Methodist Church. The celebration continues at the church with a patriotic program and sing-along with readings from historic documents, familiar songs, addresses by lawmakers, patriotic tunes by the Texas Whistler, a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and (usually) a visit from Abraham Lincoln. A free, sweet, juicy, all-you-can-eat watermelon feed on the church parking lot follows the program. Everyone is invited.

    Participants in the Community Celebration include the Buena Vista Neighborhood, the Park Street Association, and Kavanaugh United Methodist Church, and the Hunt County Rodeo and Festival Association.

  • Pony rideRally 'Round Greenville, September 17-19, 2010, in downtown Greenville is a street festival in our historic downtown.Musical entertainment A Kick-off Concert on Friday sets the stage for a Texas Music Weekend. The music doubles to two stages on Saturday with food, fun for the kids, an art show, antique car and tractor show, sidewalk sales and craft vendors in between. Saturday night, enjoy a top-notch line-up of Texas singer/songwriters at the Kenneth Threadgill Concert in Greenville’s historic Municipal Auditorium.

    Cyclists from all over north Texas join the Greenville Area Social Pedalists' Cotton Patch Classic Bicycle Event following routes of four different lengths. The Saturday race pits serious (and fast) riders against each other for cash prizes. Bike registration is at 7 a.m. The Rally/Race begins at 8 a.m.Then on Sunday, get ready for excitement as plans call for a criterium race (the NASCAR of bicycle races) to take place over the Audie Murphy Overpass coming into downtown.

  • The Follies brings a little bit of Broadway to the Municipal Auditorium stage every other year. This fast-paced, glittering musical revue is a fund-raiser for local projects. On stage April, 2011.

  • Halloween on the Square is "spooktacular" family fun. Downtown stores and offices offer goodies for trick-or-treaters. Don't miss the costume contests, games, and entertainment on the downtown square for safe Halloween fun provided by the City of Greenville Main Street Program.

  • Area churches commemorate Oktoberfest with authentic German food and fall festivals.

The December holiday season offers more opportunities for amusement for "kids" of all ages. 
  • The annual Municipal Tree Lighting features musical entertainment by local school children and the mayor pulling the switch to light the City tree in front of the Police and Court Building on Lee St. (6:30 p.m., December 2, 2010)

  • The season opens with a traditional Christmas Parade ( 7 p.m., December 3, 2010) complete with marching bands, floats, and of course, the jolly old elf himself.

  •  
  • City tree Holiday lighting illuminates the city with holiday lighting and decorations on homes, schools, churches, businesses, and shopping areas during the month of December. Many neighborhoods decorate around a particular holiday theme and sponsor evenings of wagon rides or caroling.

  • Park Street Christmas is a neighborhood yuletide party for everyone held the two weekends before Christmas. Sponsored by the Park Street Historical Association, the celebration includes a Lantern Parade with marchers dressed in Victorian finery, horse drawn Wagon Rides and one of the city's most spectacular displays of holiday lighting. Virtually every address on the street is aglow with seasonal sparkle. The Candlelight Home Tour gives an inside look at some of the street's lovely historical homes decorated with Christmas finery.

  • The Altrusa Club Holiday Tour of Homes showcases an eclectic collection of local homes dressed for the holidays. Don't miss the holiday bazaar and refreshments for tour-goers.

  • During Christmas Wonderland at Puddin Hill you can tour the candy kitchen and marvel at the variety of Christmas displays as you wander through this chocolate wonderland.
