A wide variety of professional musicians, local celebrations and virtually everything in between keep Greenville residents entertained year round!

MUSIC

  •  Dallas Symphony Orchestra Performing at the Municipal AuditoriumThe musically inclined can join two local concert series. The Festival Symphony Series features the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in three evening concerts and two school concerts each year. The 2007-2008 season features Classical Romance, Valentines Pops, and Fiery European Favorites. Membership includes Performance Preludes, pre-concert talks abou the music to be performed. In addition, the DSO will perform two educational concerts, The Recipe for Music, for local elementary school children.


  • The Greenville Entertainment Series brings to town big bands, vocalists, dance companies and country and western performers for eight concerts in the coming year. 2008 concerts include Fiesta Folklorico, The Harry James Orchestra, Presidio Brass Quintet, and Beatles tribute band Revolution.

  • The Kenneth Threadgill Concert Series showcases the Texas Country sound in four concerts each year at the Municipal Auditorium. Kenneth Threadgill is known as the "Grandfather of Austin Country Music" but he was born in 1909 in Peniel, a community just north of Downtown Greenville. The next concert features Gary P. Nunn and Fred Eaglesmith on February 23, 2008.

    Previous performers have included Charlie Robison, Reckless Kelly, Guy Clark, Bruce Robison, Chip Taylor with Carrie Rodriguez, Rodney Crowell, Max Stalling, Jack Ingram, Billy Joe Shaver, Dale Gilmore, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves, Hayes Carll, Jim Lauderdale, and Marty Stuart.

  • The “Follies,” a fund-raiser for community projects, presents a musical revue whose cast and crew are composed entirely of local residents. Follies is glitzy, fast-paced entertainment where local talent gets star billing in comedy and production numbers that rival professional stage shows. The next performances are scheduled for April 2009 at the Municipal Auditorium.

  • THEATER

  • Theater-goers can enjoy the Broadway musicals presented by the Greenville High School Theater Department and a wide variety of productions offered by the Texas A & M University - Commerce Drama Department, just 15 miles away in Commerce.
  • CELEBRATIONS

  • Mary of Puddin Hill's Bunny Hop Easter Tour. The candy kitchen and the Puddin Hill Store are the stars of the show with special tours and dazzling decorations. Chocolate sculptures of Easter Bunnies, a fabulous chocolate doll house, and a visit from the Easter Bunny make this a special occasion for the whole family!

  • Audie Murphy Days in June honors World War II's most decorated soldier, a native of the area, with visits from dignitaries, displays, memorabilia and commemorative ceremonies.July 4th parade down Park street

  • The annual July 4th Celebration begins with the red, white, and blue Buena Vista/Chapman Neighborhood Parade at 9 a.m. The Park Street Parade, featuring marching bands, visiting dignitaries, and floats, follows at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to gather at Kavanuagh United Methodist Church after the parade for a patriotic program and sing-along followed by free watermelon.Ooh and aah at the fireworks extravaganza at the Hunt County Fairgrounds after dark.

  • The Hunt County Fair, held at the fairgrounds in Greenville in June features musical entertainment, displays by local businesses and organizations, a midway, and livestock exhibits.

  • The December holiday season offers more opportunities for amusement for “kids” of all ages. The season opens the first Friday in December with a traditional Christmas parade, complete with marching bands, floats and, of course, the jolly old elf himself.

  • Park Street houses all aglowLight Magic” illuminates the city with holiday lighting and decorations on homes, schools, churches, businesses and shopping areas during the month of December. Many neighborhoods decorate around a particular holiday theme and sponsor evenings of hay rides or caroling.

  • Park Street Christmas is a neighborhood yuletide party for everyone the two weekends before Christmas. Sponsored by the Park Street Historical Association, the celebration includes a Lantern Parade with marchers dressed in Victorian finery, horse drawn Wagon Rides and one of the city’s most spectacular displays of holiday lighting. Virtually every address on the street is aglow with seasonal sparkle.

  • Visit Christmas Wonderland at Puddin Hill. Tour the candy kitchen and marvel at the variety of Christmas displays as you wander through this chocolate wonderland.

  • FINE ART

  • The Peace GardenThe Peace Garden in Forest Park Cemetery features the acclaimed larger than life bas relief sculpture "Peace in the World", featuring angels representing the world's varied ethnic groups. Five freestanding sculptured birds comprise "Peace in the Soul". The sculptures, created by Santa Fe artist Kirk Tatom, surround a garden space for peaceful contemplation.

  • A trio of modern stained glass panels at Grace Presbyterian Church titled "God's Call to Man" were created by noted glass artist Cecil Casebier.

  • Greenville’s own artists’ group, Northeast Texas Artist Guild, sponsors local art shows.

 

    HISTORY

  • The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum on Texas Historical MarkerI-30 service road just east of exit 96 features exhibits of local history and information about World War II's most decorated soldier.

  • Sites of historical interest throughout the city are identified by Texas Historic Landmark and National Historic Landmark plaques. Click here for a list of Historical Markers in the county

  • The downtown Greenville Walking Tour features 14 City Historical Markers. A joint project of the Greenville Main Street Program and the Hunt County Historical Commission, the markers recall events and customs in the city’s history. A map of marker locations is available from the Main Street Office in the Greenville Municipal Building, 2821 Washington St. and from downtown businesses.

    AUDITORIUM

  • The Greenville Municipal Auditorium is the largest in the area with a seating capacity of 1700. The Auditorium can be rented for concerts or presentations. Municipal Auditorium: 2821 Washington Street. For more information call (903) 457-3116.

OTHER

  • A rich variety of dining experiences, from fast food to gourmet dinners, is provided by more than forty restaurants. Choices include Chinese, Mexican, deli, barbecue, steakhouses and “homecookin’.” Banquet rooms are available at area motels and at the City of Greenville Fletcher Warren Civic Center.The Calico Cat

  • The local movie theater screens the latest Hollywood offerings.

  • Of course, no discussion of “entertainment” would be complete without mentioning shopping! A large indoor mall and the downtown shopping district are joined by a variety of antique shops, boutiques and gift shops in addition to discount stores and department stores located in shopping areas throughout the city.

  • Additional entertainment opportunities abound in the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
